CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Creative Arts Program

This two hour class will run for 8 week sessions on Monday, check Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This class is for students 2 ½ – 4 years old who are ready for a full separation program. The dancers will participate in an hour long creative movement class. This class will focus on different age appropriate themes such as shape, color, animal movements and sounds to name a few while incorporating basic technique for the young dancer. The students will have a small snack and then participate in arts and crafts and stories that relate to the themes covered during the movement portion of the class.

 

Mommy and Me Ballet

This hour long class is for toddlers age 18 – mnths – 2 yrs and their parent or guardian. This Mommy and Me class will incorporate the elements of our creative movement class while encouraging parents to dance along with their toddlers. Adults will dance and sing along with us and will be encouraged to explore movement alongside their young dancer. Great for gross motor development for toddlers and a good workout for the adults!

 

Pre-Ballet

For dancers registered for Combo II who would like to continue their study of ballet or for dancers who have completed Combo II but will not be 7 until after Jan. 1, 2016.

 

Ballet

Ages 7 and Up. The most classical form of dance for the more disciplined dancer. Provides students with a foundation for all types of dancing, including the elements of poise, grace and balance.

 

Dress code: Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, and pink split soled ballet slippers, hair must be in a bun. *Optional – ballet skirt may be worn as long as it does not hinder the child’s movement. Tutu’s are not permitted in class. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirt. Black tights, Black Ballet shoes.

 

Pointe

For advanced ballet students. This class furthers the dancer in this classical art form. Class registration is by invitation only and a minimum of 5 years of ballet training is a prerequisite.

 

Dress Code: Black leotard, pink tights, pink pointe shoes. Shoes must be approved by the teacher before laces and elastics are sewn on.

 

Tap

Ages 7 and Up. Style of dance that focuses on rhythm, sound clarity and variety in speed.

 

Dress code: Girls: Black leotard, dark tan tights. Teacher will specify shoe style and color. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirts, Black dance pants, Black Tap Shoes.

 

Jazz

Ages 7 and Up. A stylized form of dance generated from today’s popular music and musical theatre.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black leotard, dark tan tights, Dark tan jazz shoes. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirts, Black dance pants, Black Jazz Shoes.

 

Lyrical

Ages 8 and Up. Combines both ballet and jazz technique with expression and emotion. Students who register for Lyrical must also take Ballet.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black Leotard, beige stirrup tights, and suntan foot undies. *Optional – ballet skirt may be worn as long as it does not hinder the child’s movement. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirts, Black dance pants.

 

Modern

Ages 8 and Up. Based on the elements of contraction, breathe and the body as a vehicle for natural movement.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black leotard, dark tan footless tights. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirts, Black dance pants.

 

Acro

Ages 7 & Up. Incorporates dance and gymnastics and increases flexibility. All students registered for Acro must also be taking ballet and/or jazz.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black Leotard, Beige or Black footless tights. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirts, Black dance pants.

 

Hip Hop

Ages 8 and Up. Fun, free form style of dancing seen in today’s music videos and dance clubs.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black or teal Nadia’s t-shirt or tank, Black jazz pants or shorts, and Black jazz sneakers. Boys: Solid black form fitted t-shirts, Black dance pants or shorts, Black jazz sneakers.

 

Creative Movement

Ages 3 to 4. Combines song and dance with basic ballet technique. *Students must be potty trained.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black Leotard, pink tights, and Pink ballet slippers. *Optional – pink or black ballet skirt may be worn as long as it does not hinder the child’s movement. Tutu’s are not permitted in class. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirt. Black Dance pants, Black Ballet shoes.

 

Combo 1: Tap/Ballet

Ages 4 to 5. Gives an introduction to the beginner steps in these styles and incorporate creative movement principles of space, shape, movement quality and song. Dress Code: Girls: Black Leotard, Dark tan tights, Pink ballet slippers, and Dark tan tap shoes.

 

*Optional – ballet skirt may be worn as long as it does not hinder the child’s movement. Tutu’s are not permitted in class. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirt. Black Dance pants, Black Ballet shoes and Black tap shoes.

 

Combo 2: Tap/Jazz

Ages 5-6. Builds upon the tap technique taught in combo I and give introduction to basic jazz dance.

 

Dress Code: Girls: Black Leotard, Dark tan tights, Dark tan jazz shoes, and Dark tan tap shoes. *Optional – ballet skirt may be worn as long as it does not hinder the child’s movement. Tutu’s are not permitted in class. Boys: Black form fitted t-shirt. Black Dance pants, Black jazz shoes and Black tap shoes.

 

Musical Theatre

This class will now be a regularly scheduled weekly class and regular tuition will apply. This class will incorporate musical theatre dance technique, vocal study and acting elements. Students will focus on learning about various Broadway Musicals, their music, choreographic styles.

 

*NO BAGGY PANTS, OR T-SHIRTS, WARM-UPS ARE PERMITTED DURING THE COLD WEATHER MONTHS AND MUST BE REMOVED AFTER THE WARM-UP PORTION OF CLASS.

*NADIA’S T’S AND SWEATS MAY BE WORN AS PART OF THE DRESS CODE, HOWEVER STUDENT’S MUST HAVE PROPER LEOTARDS AND TIGHTS UNDERNEATH THEM.
*DANCE SHOES CANNOT BE WORN OUTSIDE.
